After many years of printing cards, Topps finally opened up their vaults and started releasing authentic proof cards, and
cards that were printed during the various stages of the printing process. Most of these appear to have been cut from sheets
(recently), but Topps does take care to put each card in a plastic case with a serial number, and to provide a Certificate
of Authenticity. These were sold exclusively on eBay, and are not necessarily one-of-a-kind (multiples of the same card,
same type of proof, have been noted). Interestingly, some of the cards released had errors or differences from the final
cards that were sold in 1977, and hence have commanded prices far higher than the other cards. In my collection, I have
been gathering various examples of the printing proofs and matching them with PSA graded cards from the normal base set.
As of now, PSA will not grade or encapsulate proof cards.
