1966 Topps/Glidrose

This next set is the 1966 James Bond Topps/Glidrose set, sometimes referred to as the 1966 Philadelphia Chewing Gum set. This set shows photos from "Thunderball". The backs of the cards contain descriptive text and also a "Code Quiz", which in itself distinguishes this set from the first Topps/Glidrose set.

The text on the back of card #12 outlines a classic scene from the movie ... "James Bond had an evil opponent in the $300,000,000 ransom conspiracy against the Western powers. His name was Emillo Largo; one eyed, sadistic, calculating. Largo was No. 2 man in Spectre, responsible only to the organization's mysterious cheiftan, Ernst Blofield."

From Wikipedia, "Ian Fleming Publications is the production company formerly known as both Glidrose Productions Limited and Glidrose Publications Limited, named after its founders John Gliddon and Norman Rose. In 1952, author Ian Fleming bought it after completing his first James Bond novel, Casino Royale; he assigned most of his rights in Casino Royale, and the works which followed it, to Glidrose. In 1956, Ian Fleming hired literary agent Peter Janson-Smith to handle the foreign translation rights in the James Bond novels. He was the literary consultant and chairman of Ian Fleming Publications until 2001." Given that information, it is my understanding that the Topps Company actually printed these cards, under license from Glidrose."
