1965 Somportex

The 1965 Somportex "The Exciting World of James Bond" cards were made in the U.K., after the original Film Scenes cards were deemed to racy. This set has a unique subset of the cards that picture James Bond's guns and tell about them the backs. These are slightly smaller than the standard U.S. trading card size and are on significantly lighter stock.

The text on the back of card #146 describes the Berns Martin Shoulder Holster that James wears "This can only be used for revolvers. It is split down the front, the gun being held in position by a spring which grips the cylinder. Perfect for a split-second draw - so essential in Bond's work, where a fumble can mean the difference between success and failure, between life and death - the Berns Martin Shoulder Holster is another of the secrets of 007." The text on the back of card #50 describes the "Q" Branch Walther PPK 7.64 m.m. gun "Good gun. Double action for the first shot. It holds six rounds with one in the chamber. It has a high muzzle velocity - 925 ft./sec., but it is not as powerful as a .38 Special., for its muzzle energy is only 135 ft./lb. The Walther has the disadvantage of an automatic: it can foul, taking two hands to clear. Imagine Bond in a tight corner with this extra difficulty on his hands..."
