1964 Somportex

This is the earliest James Bond card set, referred to as the "Film Scenes" set. The small print indicates that they were printed by Somportex Ltd, although there is no year printed on the cards and the backs are blank. This set shows photos primarily of Bond girls, and wasn't distributed for long due to the reaction to their costumes (or lack of). Beware as several reprint sets do exist - if the year is on the cards that's one sign that it's a reprint. These are slightly smaller than the standard U.S. trading card size and are on significantly lighter stock.

The character has also been used in the longest running and most financially successful English language film franchise to date, starting in 1962 with Dr. No. After Fleming's death in 1964, subsequent James Bond novels were written by Kingsley Amis (as Robert Markham), John Pearson, John Gardner, Raymond Benson and Sebastian Faulks. The EON Productions films are generally termed as 'official' films originating with the purchase of the James Bond film rights by producer Harry Saltzman in the late 1950s."
